This post is inspired by Sarah Janisse Brown’s book “Windows to Our World.”
Today I hope that my neighbors will make a cup of hot tea, light a candle, and cuddle under a blanket while they drink their tea.
Today I hope that my neighbors will smile at everybody they meet.
Today I hope that my neighbors will stop and pray for folks who are stuck at home because of ice storms and power outages.
Today I hope that my neighbors will remember what it was like to cuddle their newborn babies.
Today I hope that my neighbors will do that hard thing that they’ve been putting off, even if they can’t do it perfectly.
Today I hope that my neighbors will thank God for sunshine and a warm home that shelters them from raging winter winds.
Today I hope that my neighbors will stop to notice their spouse or children and enjoy who they are.
Today I hope that my neighbors will make a pot of soup to nourish their bodies.
Today I hope that my neighbors will mail-order seeds for their vegetable and flower gardens.
Today I hope that my neighbors will send a snail mail note of encouragement to someone who needs it.
Today I hope that my neighbors will spend 20 minutes cleaning that spot in their home that most needs it… cobwebs in the storage room corners? A too-full junk drawer? The car trunk? Stacks of paperwork on the desk?
Today I hope that my neighbors will try that new thing they’ve been wanting to, but haven’t got around to yet… painting? Knitting? Baking sourdough? Snowshoeing? Cartwheels? Dog training? Learn to cook? Go for a walk?
Today I hope that my neighbors will write down five things they are thankful for.
Today I hope that my neighbors will take the week off from their tech devices so they can do all the things I’ve listed here. Today I hope that my neighbors will look up and give thanks to Jesus for all His goodness to us. (Psalm 107)
